Miscanthus - the plant

also called Chinese Reed or Elephant Grass
- perennial grass type
- C4 - plant (such as corn): high yields result from the plant's capacity to assimilate and generate biomass even at high temperatures
- permanent crop: sprouts from rootstocks all year long - thus requires pricking out of rootstocks only once - saves cost for soil cultivation, seeds, and pest management

- China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan
Habitat Requirements
- cultivation in corn-growing locations at up to 700m above sea level
- soil structure: water-bearing arable farmland with good air drainage
- at least 700 mm annual rainfall
